My lady wants to move there. Can someone tell me what its like to live there in terms of the job market, housing, people, nightlife, economy, school system, etc. She works in Human Resources and I work in Finance. Please help. Thanks.

I live in South Florida now and I moved from North Central Florida about 5 years ago...I lived near Gainesville (Gator country) which was 50-60 miles south of J'ville. It is nice there it stinks there (lol) paper mills, but it's grown...I consider it the country because I am originally from Miami, but I would say it's a nice place to raise a family...I mean it's not as fast as Miami, but not as country as Tallahassee or Gainesville...you still get that city life feel, you know- Anyway, I have a few friends that live there and grew up there. Actually, my best friend from summer camp growing up lived there he was shot and killed 3 days before graduation. That was over 10 years ago...if come across anymore info...I will forward you through email- have you thought about Orlando, Tampa, or West Palm Beach??? And where would you be moving from?

Umm, I like Jacksonville......Crime is not that bad, it basically just happens in the ghetto (Northside of town).....well with a city of 850,000 and 1,300,000 metro, traffic of course is bad but you'll get used to it; or just ride the city bus........adding to the traffic are the construction projects...NUMEROUS of them......some of them won't be finished until 2010........ Areas of Town-------------------------------------- 1. Northside (The Ghetto)- The areas just north of downtown, pass the Trout River is pretty safe......areas called Springfield, Norwood, Golfair, Moncrief, Brentwood, and basically all streets that are numbered (except the triple digits) 2. Various areas of the Westside- Intersections of San Juan and Jammes.....also areas along beaver st. and areas on stockton streets. 3. Arlington, Southside, Mandarin- These areas are the best of town and predominantly white, though traffic is crap. ------------------------------------------------------------ Some schools really suck. I'm 15, so I know a whole lot about the schools. Are schools in Jacksonville Florida any good?
We planned on moving there. We've lived in Florida before, but in Naples. Jacksonville is more north Florida, WAY NORTH. And so, we have a kid thats going into the high school as a freshmen next year and we wanted a good school. We got the accountability and is a majority white school, which is what she wanted. She doesn't like going to a multi racial school because she's white and right now, she goes to one, and there's a lot of "haters" as she calls it, and everyone judges her. She's never had trouble at the schools where we used to live, till now cause shes "white". Not to sound racist. But yea, any stories or info on the schools in Jacksonville? Any other places in Florida that would accommodate this?

Unless you want to pony up for a private school like Bolles, most of the schools in Jacksonville are going to be fairly multiracial.

how do i transfer to a school outside of my district, in jacksonville, florida??
i am 12 and going into middle school, but my neighborhood school has had many issues. i do not have another neighborhood school, and the one that is not only better but is the same distance away and on my moms way to work so she passes by it. so it would be easier to go to the other school instead of my neighborhood school and its just a better school. well the thing is that i am my moms first child and she has never had to do this kind of thing, like enrolling a child in school, at least not iin the last six years. and like we live in jacksonville florida so we dont know aboutt he district and stuff, so we dont know wat to do!!! how do i go to an outer distict school? like what am i or my mother supposed to do? please answer me cause we really need help and i only have 28 days until i start school!!! so please answer me cause i really really need the help!!!!!!!! thanx :) bailey <3

If your in Florida you can apply to your local School Board for a school choice to another school in your county. That's what my brother did and he went to a school my house isn't zoned for.

From what I heard from my sister who just moved there it is not worth the move! They have had shootings on the streets and she is sorry to have moved there now!!

One word Traffic! I have worked there for months at a time. The beaches are super crowded. I have a friend who lives in Titusville (further south) he says once he gets on the road to the city the traffic fades away. And when he gets there it is just a quaint little fishing town. He says it is the best kept secret in Florida. I know that Saint Mary's and Fernandina beach is nice. It is only a Half hour from Jax in Georgia. Fort clinch is great and Amelia island is right there too. Don't overlook Georgia's coast.

If your kids are in high school, they can take dual-enrollment where they like take all required high school courses in 2 years then go on to FCCJ (Florida Com. College of Jax.) for 2 years and walk out with an AA degree......... well traffic is one concern but is improving with all this construction...................

dont move to JVILLE my son graduated in duval county the schools could be better the town is really not that nice crime is bad jobs are down and the beaches arent nice either i would suggest Clay county they have better schools and hardly in crime

Also the ones kept at the school are probably locked up for reasons like this. Then counterfeiting a template could land you in some deep trouble and most likely get you expelled(assuming your a student that is, because any faculty would know this already or ask someone in the office) Good luck with this one.
